WHY DO MY MUSCLES SHORTEN?
Muscles shorten for many reasons. Our Biology often determines the length of our muscles. E.g. Muscles naturally shorten with age, rest, and sleep. That’s why when we rise from a sleep we feel the need to stretch. Even animals and babies stretch as they awaken. And then of course there are a number of pathology’s that cause muscle fibers to contract, even atrophy.
But I believe Physical, Psychological, and Emotional stress, are the main reasons muscle fibers fire and muscle belly’s shorten.
Physical stress refers to exercise, such as working out, standing, walking; and accidents, such as being tackled on a ball field or slipping on ice.
Psychological stress refers to negative or fearful thoughts; or even the pressures and responsibilities of everyday life that weight heavy on our mind.
And Emotional stress refers to sadness and grief.
